The 2023 season got off to a bang yesterday with Marianne competing in the Girls u15 All-Ireland Indoor Pentathlon in Athlone.
It was a day of drama with Marianne always in the hunt for a coveted All-Ireland medal. Her day started brilliantly in the High Jump with a super new PB and Club Record of 1.48m, the highest of any athlete in the competition.
Good performances in the 60m hurdles, Long Jump and Shot Putt meant that Marianne was in 4th place on the leaderboard with just the 800m to go. But a collision of athletes 200m into the race resulted in one athlete falling and Marianne’s losing one of her spikes. It meant she had to run the last 600m with just one shoe. Despite that, she dug in and recovered to claim a final finishing position of 5th.
Marianne will next be competing in the Dublin Indoor championships with her clubmates in NIA through the month of February.
Age Group coaches will be in touch regarding the Upcoming Dublin Indoor Championships. You will receive forms to confirm whether your child wishes to compete or not and also which events. There are options to compete in individual events and also relays. We would encourage athletes in particular to compete in relays. Forms are linked here also.
Club Relay Trials take place in NIA at 7:30 and finish at 8:30 for 2008 to 2012 athletes. Trial distance is 200m, one lap of the indoor track.

What a run from Keane in Cork on the All-Ireland’s on Sunday. In a classic old school cross country course, Keane was 10th Dublin boy home in a super competitive field of over 180 starters. Dublin won the All-Ireland team title with the Top 6 Dublin finishers getting the coveted All-Ireland medal. Super effort from Keane who balances his athletics, his football at Shelbourne FC and his studies very well.
Dublin Indoors 2023
The Dublin Indoor Championships will take place from late January into February in the NIA. In order to assist the coaching team in preparing athletes as best we can, we would like to get an idea of what event they would like to do.
For parents of athletes 2006 to 2012, please check your email as we have sent out requests over the past few days to get a sense of what athletes will be competing and what events they may like to do. If you are not sure, there is an option for confirming that. If you haven’t received an email, contact clongriffinathletics@gmail.com.

If using Google Maps, simply select ‘Avoid Motorway’ and it will bring you this way. It is typically 25mins travel time from Clarehall.
This is the last Friday session before Christmas.
Sunday:
Final round of the Dublin Cross Country League is on this Sunday in Tymon Park. If you haven’t already confirmed your athlete is competing, you can do via this link here. Note, much shorter distances.
It will be confirmed later in the week if there is training in Fr Collins Park on Sunday.
