Girls U9 Dublin Cross Country Bronze Medal Team

Team Bronze

The Girls U9 were the first in action at the Dublin Uneven Ages Cross Country in Santry last Sunday. Orlaith led the team home with a super silver medal run followed closely by Niamh in 4th. Their teammates Lucy, Mya and Zara all ran great to mean the girls came home with the club’s first ever team cross-country medal with bronze.

Boys U9 were next up and Ruben had a superb race improving on all his league races to come a brilliant 16th. He is followed home by Charlie, in his first cross-country race, and Daniel.

All-Ireland Qualifiers

The Girls U11 had two qualifiers for the All-Irelands with Sarah (8th) and Ella (9th) and with great back up Ava and Sophie they team finished 8th in a very competitive age group.

Ozie and Arthur had very brave runs in the Boys U11 following up on their consistent runs in the League while Joe ran a strong effort in the Boys U13.

Final All-Ireland qualifier was Marianne in the Girls U13 who ran a very patient race to come through very strongly and finish 11th.

The uneven ages All-Ireland takes place in Gowran on 5th December. Best of luck to Sarah, Ella and Marianne in that.

Dublin Cross Country League Round 2

This is a friendly, non-championship event that aims to provide athletes a chance to try cross-country. The distances are shorter than championship event and build up to longer distances each round of the League.

Every athlete who competes in a round receives 10 pts and then there are bonus points for top 20 finishers with the winner receiving 20 points all the way down to 20th place receiving 1 extra bonus point.

Running Spikes

You may have noticed some athletes wearing running spikes which are lighter shoes with screw in spikes in the bottom. While these are not essential, they do help in competitions especially in cross-country when the ground may get slippy and muddy.

The spikes are adjustable and can be changed for the terrain. So for example if on a running track doing running or hurdling or jumping events you could have 5mm spikes while for softer surfaces like cross-country grass they could be 9mm.

They are available in sport shops such as Run Hub or Elverys and also available online. Some online examples are below and you should be able to get a pair for €25-€40.
