The Outdoor Fixtures have been confirmed. More details will follow regarding these in the coming weeks with the Coaching Team starting to prepare the various age groups and teams.
There will be 4 types of competitions.
Dublin Leagues = Purple. These are a good chance to try events and are open to all athletes aged 2013 and older.
Dublin Championships = Blue. These are the championship meets and more competitive and are open to all athletes aged 2014 and older.
All-Irelands = Green. These are for athletes or team who have finished in the Top 4 in Dublin and other provincial competitions.
Open Sports (or friendlies) = Yellow. These are open competitions hosted by other clubs.
The Dublin Indoor Championships have just completed and it was a big success for Clongriffin Athletic Club with 74 athletes competing across the five days of competition. The Indoor Arena with it’s blue track, banked bends and stands packed with crowds provides an electric atmosphere and all athletes will have gained valuable experience whether they won, lost, had close calls or falls or were simply just proud of themselves for stepping on the line for the first time and competing. The athletes competed in a wide range of events including 60m sprint, 60m hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Middle Distance and Relays.
Sprints & Hurdles
These events had our biggest representation of athletes across two days. In total we had seven finalists with Sarah, Orlaith, Ella, Tristain, Ben, Oscar and Sophia all making their finals. Sarah claimed silver in the Gu9 60m while Orlaith took home the gold in the Gu10 60m. There were very close calls for both Ella (Gu12 60m) and Ben (Bu13 60m Hurdles), both losing out on a medal by just 0.02 seconds.
Middle Distance
Day 4 saw middle distances races, ranging from 300m for u9 up to 600m for u13. Orlaith completed a double gold by winning the Gu10 400m while Sarah (Gu9) and Ella (Gu12) were just outside the medals in 4th. Sarah (Gu12) had a great run to make the 600m final while Keane can count himself very unlucky not to make the Bu13 600m final after being drawn in a very fast heat.
Jumps & Throws
The fields events provided great drama with Sophie Winkless winning the club our first High Jump medal. In a very tight contest, Sophie came out as Dublin Champion, winning on countback. After two 4th places in the 60m and 600m, Ella finally claimed that elusive medal with a bronze in the Gu12 Long Jump. At pretty much the same time, Marianne was overcoming her disappointment of falling in the hurdles, by taking a brillant silver medal in the Gu14 Long Jump. Sarah, Gu12 Long Jump, and Oscar, Bu13 Shot Putt, also made their finals while Kevin in the Bu15 Long Jump lost out on a medal by just 4cm.
Relays
The final day was relays and they didn’t disappoint with huge crowds and non-stop action keeping everyone entertained. Clongriffin had 12 teams enterted among the 345 teams from all over Dublin. All relays were 4 x 200m with heats required to see which 6 teams would then compete in the Final.
The morning action saw the Even Ages and Clongriffin got off to a great start with both of the Gu10 teams qualifying for the final. The Gu12 followed with one of our teams also making the Final. All teams performed brilliantly and the baton practice they have all been focused on in recent weeks really helped.
In the Finals, the Girls U10 claimed Silver and Bronze, a pretty rare occurrence for one club to have two teams on the podium in a relay. So well done to Niamh, Mya, Monika, Zara, Amelia, Sarah, Orlaith and Lucy.
The Girls U12 claimed a very exciting bronze in their final in a very competitive age group. The team of Sarah, Sophie, Ava and Ella ran a super race, moving into 3rd place at just the right time off the last bend.
A big well done to all teams with a great team effort.

The following are the relay teams for this Sunday’s Dublin Indoor Relay Championship.
Each relay contains four members. In some ages we may have more athletes than places available so the coaching team may have to make decisions as regards who is selected on the teams. This will always be a balancing act of trying to give everyone an opportunity but also taking into account performances in training and recent competitions. If athletes are not on a relay this weekend there will be more opportunities in the Outdoor season from April onwards.
Relays are for ages u10 and upwards. In total there are 340 relay teams competing on Sunday with Clongriffin AC having 12 teams competing.
There will be heats in all ages with the Top 6 team’s progressing to the final. In ages u12 and upwards, the Top 3 teams progress to the All-Ireland Finals.
This should be an exciting competition where the athletes will get to compete as a team and represent their club.
Please carefully read the timetable provided by the Club before an event. This will list each athlete, what event they are doing and the event’s start time.
For all events please arrive 60 minutes before the event. Please account for traffic and parking at the venue in your timing.
Athletes are free but all other spectators must pay a €5 admission fee.
On arrival at the arena, proceed to where the Team have based themselves in the Arena and the Team Manager for the day will give the athlete their competition number and pins for attaching. The Team Manager and ‘team base’ location will be confirmed to all in advance. If you received a competition number last weekend, please bring this number as you will need to use the same number again.
Some athletes may be entered in more than one event with lengthy time gaps between them. If you have any questions around this, eg, is it possible to go home and come back later, please contact the Age Group Coach (see Coach Contact List at bottom)
Team Vest and Competition Number
The competition number must be attached to the official Clongriffin AC vest or tee shirt. If you do not have a vest or tee shirt, contact Sinead on 087-626 6816 to let her know.
Event Check In
Once the athlete has their number, they must now Check In. A member of the Coaching team will assist the athlete with Check In.
This is a very important step as it means the organisers know the athlete is present and will be competing, This allows officials to complete heat draws and lane draws on the timing system. If an athlete misses this Check In cut off, they will not be allowed compete.
If you are running late please call or message the Age Group Coach (see Coach Contact list) so they can try to accommodate a late check in with officials. There is no guarantee that this will be accommodated.
Warm Up
After Check In, the athlete can enter the Warm Up Area where they will be met by their Age Group coach to help in warm up and preparation for their event.
There can be a lengthy period before the event while in the warmup area so athletes should bring a bottle water.
They will access to a toilet from the Warm Up area.
Family and supported can remain the stand for the duration and the Warm Up area is fully visible from the stand.
Event Time
When their event is to take place, the athletes will be brought to race start or field event.
For a field event they will remain at the event for the duration until their event is completed. When it is completed, they will be free to return to the stand. Once started a field event can take 30-45 minutes to complete.
For a running or hurdle event there may be heats, semi-finals and finals. The specifics of qualification for finals will vary from event to event and will be based on finishing places and times in heats.
After heats the athletes will return to the Warm Up area to the Coaches who will advise whether they should remain in the Warm Up area for a potential semi-final or final or whether they can return to the stand. If athletes are progressing to the semi-final or final there may be a lengthy period of time between heats and final. Coaches will advise the athletes on this.
While there is a timetable, it is possible to change on the day and there can be delays. There can be up to 1,500 athletes attending and it requires a lot of logistics.
It is important that parents or guardians remain in the Arena for the duration of their athletes time there. The Coaching team will be responsible and take care of the athletes once they are in the Warmup Area but they will not be able to monitor the athletes while in the Stand etc.
Food
It is possible to bring some food as you are likely to be in the arena for several hours. It is also possible to leave the arena and re-enter if you wish.
