Marianne Claims Leinster Schools Title

A big day for Clongriffin Athletics and Belmayne Educate Together Secondary School on Thursday when Marianne claimed the Leinster Schools Minor Girls Pentathlon title in the National Indoor Arena. Kate and Meabh, also part of our Girls u14 squad, competed brilliantly throughout the day with standout PB performances particularly in the High Jump.

Marianne started her day well with a PB in the Hurdles and then a big PB in the High Jump with 1.45m. A solid long jump and shot put had her in 2nd place going into the final event, the 800m. Another big PB, taking her 4 seconds off her previous best, catapulted Marianne into gold medal position when all scores were added up.

Big thanks for our own Coach Dan, maths teacher in the school, and also Aisling, school principal, who is a massive advocate of Athletics and all sports in general in her school.

Super Efforts At Dublin Cross-Country Championship

Day 1 of the Dublin Cross-Country Championships was held at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown last Sunday.

First out were the Girls u10 and were led home by Orlaith in 2nd place with Niamh (10th) and Lucy (14th) in close order behind. The team backed up by Monika and Amelia were just outside the team medals, only 8pts off 3rd place.

The Boys u10 had two entrants with Joe and Ruben and in a huge field the boys ran their hearts out for Top 30 finishes.

The Girls u12 were next out and in a top quality field full of All-Ireland medalists Ella made the Dublin team for the All-Ireland’s in Donegal in November with an 11th place finish. Sarah and Ava followed with strong runs also.

The Girls u14 had one entrant with Marianne battling over the tough 3km course for a good 14th, just outside Dublin team selection (Top 12).

The final Clongriffin athletes out were the Boys u11 4 x 500 relay team in the All-Ireland Relay Championship. Great runs by a developing team with Max, Oran, Jacques and Evan coming 28th overall. A great effort allround.
